Donna (Stone) Haynes was a three-year starter at forward for the Celina High School Lady Bulldogs from 1975-1979 during the classic three-on-three era of girls basketball, where she had a decorated career.
Measuring 5’11” tall, Haynes was one of the tallest players to ever wear the black and gold, was a high-percentage shooter, and was an all-conference player. Though complete statistics are not available, she once scored 35 points on 15 of 15 field goal shooting in a two-point win over Carthage and helped Celina battle powerhouses Pickett County, Rickman, and Clarkrange for district supremacy.
As a senior, Haynes was named to the All-Tri-Lakes Conference 1st Team and was named All-Midstate Honorable Mention by the Nashville Banner.
Nominator Comment:
“Donna competed against some of the best athletes to ever play the game and excelled. Her senior year was the last year half-court girls basketball was played and she dominated. We feel she is more than deserving of being honored with induction into the Clay County Sports Hall of Fame.”
